Faith Development Activities

Looking for ways to connect and deepen your relationship with Live Oak? Remember, you can find information about events on our What’s Happening page, here.

Please help plan for our Summer RE program for elementary and youth by completing this survey. Survey will close on June 8.

Here are this week’s updates:
Vespers – Thursday from 7-7:30. (all ages) This week, join Rev. Joanna for a service specifically geared toward grief. We will come together in live space to share some ritual elements of worship.

Letters for Bridging Seniors: Please remember to write a note of wisdom, encouragement, or congratulations to our bridging high school seniors — Kat Schwab and Lily Crawford. You can email those to me at dlfd at liveoakuu dot org. (videos are welcome, too.) We are in the process of planning a virtua bridging worship service, so stay tuned and get those letters in!

Faith Like a River – Tuesdays, 9:30 – 11, May 19 – June 23 (Adults and older teens) Looking for a chance to learn more about Unitarian Universalist history? Faith Like a River explores the dynamic course of Unitarian, Universalist, and Unitarian Universalist (UU) history—the people, ideas, and movements that have shaped our faith heritage. It invites participants to place themselves into our history and consider its legacies. What lessons do the stories of our history teach that can help us live more faithfully in the present? What lessons do they offer to be lived into the future?

Each session can stand alone, so join when you can. There is some preparatory reading for each session so we can spend more time in discussion. Each week you will find the assignments in this post.

Preparation for Session Three (6/2) HERE.
Homework from Session Three HERE.
Preparation for Session Four (6/9) HERE.

We will regroup at the end of June and consider whether to continue with more sessions.

Family Faith Development – (all ages) We are coming into summer and little has changed, except that our usual flow is to slow down for the summer months. While I am still taking survey responses, it is pretty apparent from what I’ve received, that families are not able to commit to much else in their lives right now. So, instead of a weekly RE lesson, I’m switching to a summer long focus on the principles. Done in your own time (or not). Please consider posting pictures of the activities you are engaging in. The format still provides an opportunity to connect as a family and to bring Unitarian Universalist values into your home through activities and actions.

Live Oak UU Summer Curriculum: Summer UU Bucket List

Meditation Mondays with Carrie – (all ages) Come as you are on Monday mornings for a brief check-in, meditation time and time to set your intentions for the week. We gather from 7-7:30. Meeting space will be closed at 7:10 when we begin our meditation.

Weekly Check-in:
Weekly gatherings over zoom continue. Registered families will find the zoom links for all meetings in their email and also in the FB groups for Live Oak. This week we will start having middle school check-in separate from high school check-in. Middle school will remain at 4:00 on Thursday. High School time has not been determined yet. If you aren’t registered but are interested in joining, please email dlfd at liveoakuu dot org.

Have an idea for a one time or ongoing online gathering that you are willing to lead? Let us know and we can help you get it scheduled and publicized. And be sure to follow us on Facebook and subscribe to the newsletter for opportunities for online engagement.

*See* you throughout the week,
Carrie
