Much of American culture is hush-hush about death. We don’t want to talk about it; it is exclusively a somber topic. But Dia de los Muertos turns that on its head — this is a time to see the continuing presence of our departed loved ones in our lives, and to celebrate them, remembering the seemingly insignificant details of their lives — their favorite candy, the music they loved. Can we “embrace the joy” of celebrating the lives of our loved ones and ancestors? Dia do los Muertos gives a hearty, “Yes!”
